Chemicals and Additives

When making your homebrew beer or homemade wine you will usually need some additional chemicals either to sterilise your brewing equipment, get the most out of your starting materials, avoid a stuck fermentation or to adjust wine for sweetness or acidity before bottling.


Chemicals - Mostly packed in 4 oz tubs  
   
Bentonite - clay powder used to clear wine. 0.75
Campden tablets (100) - added to wine after fermentation as a preservative 1.50
Citric Acid - substitutes natural citrus and helps yeast fermentation 1.50
Tannin - improves the taste of red wines and adds dryness.  Benefits long storage 1.20
Irish Moss - Added to the wort during the boil to clarify the finished product - Helps haze forming substances to coagulate and settle. 1.25
Lactic Acid - used to adjust the acidity of your wine 1.80
Rohament P - breaks down cellulose connective tissue in fruits to increase juice yield 2.25
Pectolase - pectin destroying enzyme added to fresh fruit or vegetable must.  Pectin hazes prevent wine from clearing 1.15
Precipitated Chalk - used to reduce acidity of wine or must 0.95
Potassium Sorbate - ends wine fermentation  1.55
Sodium Metabisulphite - for sterilising, neutralising wild yeast before fermentation, and as a preservative. 1.20
Tartaric Acid - Adds acidity and character to wine 1.75
Vit B Tablets (100) - aids healthy growth of yeast particularly in flower wines 1.35
Yeast Nutrient - provides minerals yeasts need 1.50
Tronozymol  - 100 grms - The best known yeast nutrient & energiser, prevents stuck fermentations
